Boring Bowring Family HistoryBoring Bowring GenealogyText Box: Family of Marcus & Florence (Bonta) Lyons
(my maternal great-grandparents, and their son Marcus was my grandfather)

Front are the parents: Marcus Sherman Lyons & Florence Eden (Bonta) Lyons
Back are the sons: Marcus Thomas Sherman “Mutt” & William “Lee” Lyons

This photo was probably taken around 1927 or 1928. This is a guess, because the father, Marcus Sherman Lyons died in May of 1928, and also from looking at the ages of the boys.

This photograph is in really bad shape; I have taken it to numerous photo shops and apparently it is unfixable. Hopefully it can be restored some day.
Text Box: This website is to display information, pictures, documents and other things that I have gathered over the last several years in my research for my ancestors. Lyons is my maternal lineage.
The information on this site will be descendants of Joseph Lyons, b. abt. 1764, and is wife was Jane J. McMullin. They were married May 31, 1784 in Mercer County Kentucky. I have one generation back from Joseph Lyons, but I have no proof other than that someone listed on ancestry.com (with no source, of course) that the parents of Joseph Lyons were Stephen Lyons and Nancy Bell.
My Lyons family is connected to the Bonta/Banta Family also. www.potrafke.net/bonta
Text Box: My name is Alfreda Potrafke. By posting this website I hope to find other people who may be researching this Lyons family so that we can share and compare information. I also have some photos that I do not know who they are and would really like to find someone who may know who the people in these pictures are. They were with my mother’s grandmother’s (Florence Eden Bonta-Lyons) things that she got when her grandmother died. I also want to help others in their research if possible, and share what I have with other members of this family.

The more I find out about my ancestors, the more fulfilled in life I feel. This is an ongoing journey that I will hopefully continue for many years to come.

I remember my great-grandma Lyons, Florence Eden Bonta-Lyons, and my grandfather, Marcus Thomas Sherman Lyons. They lived in Harrodsburg Kentucky, on a farm. We lived in a different state, but would go to visit them often.

I will post what information, documents, etc. I have, as time permits. This is a slow process, so please check back soon for updates, additions, and/or corrections.

I would like to apologize for not documenting sources better. When I began this journey, I just went and gathered any and all information I could on the family and put it in binders when I would get home; not knowing at that time that I should be documenting where the information or documents came from or when I got them. I am trying to back-track and enter sources that I know, as I can, and after learning how important it is to document sources, I definitely document them now!

Please feel free to use anything I have posted on this site. All I ask is that you please respect any living people, please do not profit from anything from my site, and if you use my information please post where you got it. I have spent many years and lots of money collecting the information I have, and I do appreciate the source you use reflecting my endeavors.

Happy Hunting!
Alfreda
