I am creating this website to display the information I have gathered through the years on my Bonta/Banta Family History. I can only prove back to my maternal great-great-great grandfather (Edward Eden Bonta; b. 18 Sep 1844, d. 25 Aug 1908) in this line. There are books written on the Banta Family from Friesland, Holland, but I cannot prove past my great-great grandfather yet. I’m hoping that this website will attract others who are also researching my line of the Bonta/Banta family, and we can work together to combine our research, pictures, documents, etc. I remember my great-grandmother (Florence Eden Bonta-Lyons; b. 28 Sep 1890, d. 29 Jun 1988). I have several pictures and documents related to this line of my family, and will get them added to this website as time allows. From the documents, pictures, Bible, etc. that I have accumulated during my research, the name in my line has mostly been spelled “BONTA”, but there are a few things and a few ancestors who are connected that it is spelled “BANTA”. I always research both when working on this side of my family history, because they are definitely connected. Thanks to everyone who has done research on the Bonta/Banta Family History. If anyone would like to add anything to this website, or would like more information from me, please email me at potrafke@comcast.net. I still have a lot of information to add to this website, so please check back periodically for additions, corrections, changes, etc. Also, if you see any errors or have any suggestions for this website, please let me know. Thank You, Alfreda Potrafke |

This is a very old picture of my great-grandparents (front): Marcus Sherman Lyons & Florence Eden (Bonta) Lyons and their sons: my maternal grandfather on the left: Marcus Thomas Sherman Lyons and his brother, Lee William Lyons
I have tried to have this photo restored, as it is getting very, very hard to see… but several photography experts have told me it is not fixable. So I have it saved on my computer this way, and this is the best it will get. The original is fading very quickly, even though I have it stored properly. It was thrown in with a box of other things and not properly taken care of for many years. I would say this photo was probably taken about 1927 or 1928, and that is estimating from the age of my grandfather in it. He was born in 1919. |
