My name is Alfreda Potrafke. I have been researching my family history since 2000, as time and money have permitted. The Potrafke Family has been my main focus, but I have also put extensive time and money into researching my other lines, as well as other families not genetically connected. I think that is because Potrafke is my maiden name and I was very close to my paternal grandparents who were Potrafke’s, and because they left behind so many documents, journals, pictures, scrapbooks, and other items which I am currently in possession of. I remember the members of that side of my family the most. My dad, who was the only son of my grandparents (he had step-siblings by my grandfather) was in possession of these things for many years and while in his possession, they were boxed up in a shed. I asked him if I could have them and he gave them to me. After reading some of my grandfathers journals and going through some of the documents in the boxes, I became very interested in learning the history of this family… thus began my search! I only wish I had been more interested while my grandparents were still living.
Now I’d like to find other family members who are also researching, in hopes of working together with them to learn as much as possible about where we came from. So if you would like to join me in this adventure, please contact me (more contact information below) or send me any pictures or information you would like to share, and I will be more than happy to post it on this site. And if you do not want it posted on the web site, I would like to have it to enter into my private database, as I have been searching desperately to find the history of this family, with not much luck.
I’d like to thank my Uncle Walter (Potrafke), my dad’s half-brother, who has helped me tremendously. I’d also like to thank two cousins who I met through doing research, Carol (Potrafke) McKee, and Dione (Potrafke) Burhkhardt, who have shared information and photos with me. And thank you to all my family and friends who have helped me in any way during my years of research. |

Anyone visiting this site is welcome to use information or pictures I have provided. I have created this website in hopes of helping others who are researching our family and to get help from others as well; or possibly meet anyone who may know anything about the Potrafke’s. I do ask that you have respect for the family members who are still living; please do not use any information, or any of the documents or items provided on my site in any harmful way. Also, if you use my information in your family tree, please document where it came from, as I have spent a lot of time, money and effort in obtaining these things and in doing this website.
Also, this information is not to be used for anyone to sell or make money from in ANY way.
If you have any information on any of the Potrafke, Potrafka, Potraffke families, please send it to me. I am very hopeful we can learn a lot about our ancestors if we work together to find them.
Thank you. |

I am certified through The University of Toronto in American Record Research. I do research every chance I get! I have experience with hands-on genealogy and cemetery research in the states of OH, PA, KY, IN, and WV. I also volunteer for www.findagrave.com. I have extensive on-line research experience as well. I truly enjoy doing this, it’s exciting, fun, and very fulfilling. I have two children and six grandchildren. Besides genealogy and being with my children and grandchildren, I enjoy working on the computer and learning new things, I enjoy doing needlework, scrapbooking, sewing, and reading. |
